York Georgian Festival
Did you know that Catholicism was illegal during much of the Georgian period?
Take a ‘Georgian Festival’ self-led tour of the house to uncover how this secret convent disguised its true purpose and defied the odds to become the oldest place of Catholic worship in the country. Discover this incredible legacy through fascinating artefacts and immersive interpretation in the exhibition. Explore the Georgian architecture of the building and the remarkable narratives behind it- including the stunning Hidden Chapel and Georgian Parlour. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit our beautiful cafe, overlooked by our famous Henry Hindley Georgian Turret Clock.
Special events: Guided Tours Friday 7 August at 10:30am and 2:30pm and Mass in the Georgian Chapel at 12noon, all faiths and none are welcome.
