Discover more about the extraordinary Yorkshire woman Mary Ward (1585-1645) in our new family-friendly trail and special exhibition this half term.

From her determination to educate girls, walking across the Alps three times in shoes that were too small and being imprisoned by her own Church; her story is an incredible one.

She paved the way for her followers to open the first schools for girls in the country to offer an education equal to boys (the second here at the Bar Convent) and today her vision is thriving in 42 countries in every continent and around 200 schools worldwide have been founded in her name.

She is so significant that thousands of people around the world are campaigning to have her declared a Saint– but how much do you know about this local woman? Join us to find out more!
