EVENT

COLOUR!
This summer, discover the works of young local artists who have given their own creative twist to some of the most iconic heritage buildings and landmarks in York. PLUS Join us in the garden where art and heritage combine to create an outdoor sketch space.
Many of our young participants initially reported that heritage and culture are just not for them for various reasons but this project, headed by award- winning charity New Visuality, aimed to dispel that notion.
These young artists were encouraged to discover, explore and engage in elements of York’s heritage and create artistic interpretations of their experience.
Using photography skills, and, for the first time, innovative AI technology, they produced fantastic digital pieces such as ‘Bar Convent Sky’, ‘York Colourised’, and ‘York Minster and its Glittering Future.’
The result of the project is a new display of around 25 works from a range of ages which will be on display within the Bar Convent exhibition.
To continue the theme of art and heritage, you will find easels in the Bar Convent garden available for outdoor sketching- why not take inspiration from our exhibition to create your own artistic interpretations?
“Heritage without innovation is just history. This project has brought so much joy to our young artists and is a microcosm of what Bar Convent continues to do so well, which is to intersect tradition and technology. The future is indeed bright.”- Greg McGee, Co-founder of New Visuality.
New Visuality would like to thank City of York Council’s Micklegate, Clifton, and Westfield wards for funding this project.
Included in admission to the exhibition. Last admission 4pm.
